A symbol of motherhood and a mother's devotion, a pastel yellow daylily adds a touch of class to any garden border. Its botanical name, Hemerocallis, comes from two Greek words meaning "beauty" and "day." Although a single flower lasts only one day, each stalk has many buds allowing the plant to bloom for several weeks. Forgetfulness and loss of memory were once associated with the daylily. It was believed that a gift of the blooms would help one forget sorrow and pain.
